For the Labor Day holiday, I went hiking at Point Reyes. We got there around 1PM and it was already hot. The hike started at the Bear Valley Visitor center.
A short half mile walk up the Bear Valley Trail is the trail head for the Meadow trail. This is where the elevation rises from the valley floor to the crest of the ridge, so the hike is sharply uphill for over a mile. I was melting and questioning if I was going to make it about halfway up…. Near the crest is the trail head for the Sky Trail which where the trail starts going downhill towards the ocean. For another mile you have sweeping vistas of the park and coastline. Woodward Meadow trail is the final leg of the hike which takes you down to the beach and past a campground. After realizing how far down we had come towards the ocean, we decided to turn around. This was at least four miles in and four miles out.
Point Reyes is one of my favorite places to hike and there are so many other things to do too. Click here to download a map of Point Reyes National Seashore (81)
